BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
Parents will visit the pharmacy many times within the first two years of their child's life to purchase products such as nappies, feeding equipment and medicines. It is important to build relationships with new parents so they feel comfortable asking you for advice. Having that relationship will also help you to be alert to any issues, so you can signpost effectively.
Tips for building relationships:
Be friendly
You could ask how old the baby is or how Mum is doing after the birth
Make
a connection
Try to find something in common. If you're a parent yourself you could share this information
Ask questions
Asking questions and listening attentively help to build rapport
Exceed expectations
Going the extra mile for a customer will make them want to seek you out in future. You could pre-empt their needs by thinking about the next stage in their child's development and what support and products they may need.
