E-PRIVATE PRESCRIPTIONS

The e-private prescription market is growing rapidly; however, the service has often resulted in a fragmented customer experience. Boots pharmacies are working alongside various online doctors to provide an efficient e-⁠private prescription service.

Boots is partnering with Doctor Care Anywhere, The GP Service, Livi and Signature Rx to ensure patients can receive their medication efficiently.* These companies all provide online healthcare services and can prescribe medication during online consultations. Boots is working in partnership with these specific online doctors; any other e-prescriptions that may be emailed are not legally valid and cannot be accepted.

When a patient presents in store with a unique authorisation code from one of these providers, the pharmacy team should access the provider's online portal. You can do this using the code and the patient's date of birth to view and dispense the item(s). The prescription will then be sent electronically to the Boots pharmacy shared mailbox, where the authorisation code and your unique store PIN will be needed to view and dispense it. If you do not know your store PIN, it can be viewed on BootsLive along with further guidance.

EAT WELL WITH VICKY PENNINGTON

When entering a new year, we often look to healthier ways of living. We have teamed up with Vicky Pennington, Nutritionist at Boots UK, to provide an advice column on improving your diet and advising customers on theirs.

Want to make changes for the better? Improving our diets can be a win-win; addressing both climate change and our health concerns. Often, our diets are low in fibre, oily fish, fruit, vegetables and essential micronutrients, and we over consume calories, saturated fats, salt and sugars. The good news is that little changes can make a big difference.

Building resilience
A greater understanding of immunonutrition is one of the good things that has emerged from COVID-19. Did you know that around 70% of immune cells are found in the gut?1 A healthy diet helps to build resilience and support a strong immune system.

Vitamin D is particularly key, as it's the one vitamin that even the healthiest diet can't provide enough of. It supports bone, teeth and muscle health and is only found in a few foods (e.g. oily fish, egg yolks and fortified breakfast cereals).2 In fact, it isn't truly a vitamin as it's made in our bodies from the action of sunlight on the skin. During the autumn and winter months, it is recommended that adults and children aged four years and over take a daily supplement of 10 µg vitamin D.

HPV VACCINATION SERVICE

In November 2021, it was announced that the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is reducing cervical cancer cases in England by almost 90%.1 These findings suggest the service is having a positive impact and reinforces the importance of receiving the vaccine.


HPV is a common virus spread by intimate skin-to-skin contact. Often, the virus is harmless; however, if the infection persists, it can result in cancer. The NHS offers a HPV vaccination to those aged 12-13 years. This can help to reduce transmission and can protect against the virus for at least 10 years.2


The private Boots HPV vaccination service protects against cervical cancer, genital warts and various other types of cancers. Like the NHS programme, it is available for those aged 12-13 years. However, the Boots service is also available for people aged 14-44 years, so is ideal for those outside the age range of the NHS programme.*


The new HPV study suggests that the vaccination programme has prevented about 450 cancers and 17,200 pre-cancers.1 These significant findings may mean a rise in interest in the service Boots provides. If your store offers it, make sure you're familiar with how it works and are ready to advise customers. If your store doesn't offer it, find out which local stores do so you can signpost customers.


In addition, the new spring term is about to begin for university students, and some may have been on phased or delayed return following COVID. The largest uptake of HPV vaccinations is from international students, so as they arrive in the UK for this new semester, be ready for a potential increase in uptake of the service. To prepare, make sure your appointment booking diary is ready and that all materials you need to deliver the service, e.g. customer information leaflets, are available in store.
