Personalise additional advice
You may be asked if babies and young children need vitamin D supplements. The Department of Health and Social Care recommends:
- From birth to 12 months, breastfed babies should be given a daily supplement containing 8.5 to 10 mcg of vitamin D
- Babies fed infant formula should not be given a vitamin D supplement until they are having less than 500 ml of infant formula a day, as infant formula is fortified with vitamin D
- Children aged one to four years should be given a daily supplement containing 10 mcg of vitamin D.12
