Supply considerations for Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets1

WHO

Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets are suitable for children and adults over 12 years

WHAT

Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets are indicated for relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

HOW

As Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets are for chronic idiopathic urticaria, the symptoms should have been present for longer than 6 weeks

ACTIONS

Customers may have used other antihistamines to manage their urticaria but Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets may be a suitable alternative as it is long lasting and non-drowsy*

MEDICINES

It is advisable to leave 2 hours between taking Allevia® Hives and aluminium and magnesium hydroxide containing antacids

 

Allevia® Hives 180mg tablets are not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women

*Non-drowsy in most people

When to refer:2

You should refer customers to their GP if:

  • Their symptoms do not improve after 2 days of treatment

  • They’re worried about a child’s hives

  • The rash is spreading

  • Hives keeps coming back

  • They also have a high temperature and feel unwell

  • They have swelling under their skin (this might be angioedema)

Urgent referral to 999 is required if the customer shows signs of anaphylaxis such as:2

  • Their lips, mouth, throat or tongue suddenly become swollen

  • They’re breathing very fast or struggling to breathe

  • Their throat feels tight or they’re struggling to swallow

  • Their skin, tongue or lips turn blue, grey or pale (if they have black or brown skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet)
