Delivering pharmacy services brilliantly
A message from Claire Nevinson, Pharmacy Superintendent:
I am proud of the quality and range of services that we deliver to patients in our pharmacies every day; the difference that they make to our communities is significant.
Recently, the specification for the NHS Hypertension Service (known as the Blood Pressure Check Service) in England was changed to allow Pharmacy Technicians to train to deliver and provide the service. It has been great to hear of the participation of our Pharmacy Technicians in this service and the difference that they are making to patients. This change marks the start of significant changes that will be introduced over the coming months, as we see the role of the Pharmacy Technician in community pharmacy expand and grow, offering opportunities for personal professional development as well as advanced support for our pharmacists. I look forward to supporting our Pharmacy Technicians in delivering the Winter Flu Jab Service from September.
As demand for services, such as the Travel Vaccinations and Health Advice Service, increases over the summer months and we start to plan for the flu season, it is important to take the time to ensure that consultation rooms meet the required standards, appointment diaries are planned and organised, and that each member of the pharmacy team is engaged with supporting and talking to patients about the services available in store.
I also encourage all store team members to refresh their understanding of the Ask for ANI scheme, which can be a lifeline for victims of domestic abuse who are in distress and need a safe space in our consultation rooms so that they can seek help. Ensure any new, temporary/relief or locum team members are aware of, and understand, the Ask for ANI scheme and what to do if someone presents in store asking to ‘speak to ANI’.
Finally, I’d like to congratulate our Trainee Pharmacists as they complete their year with us and join the register. As you start your professional career with Boots, or elsewhere, I encourage you to keep learning, to practice compassionate leadership with the teams that you will be part of and, above all, do your very best for patients every day.
