Advancing professional practice
A message from Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist
Independent Prescribing (IP) is key to the future of the pharmacy profession and central to Boots' evolving role for pharmacists. It’s inspiring to hear from IPs who practice in store or with the Boots Online Doctor team, sharing how ongoing learning and professional autonomy enhance patient care.
In February and March, we’ll host IP CPD events to help our IPs network, learn, and build confidence. Growing this network is crucial for developing the next generation of pharmacists, who will receive clinical training and prescribing capability ready to register in 2026. With the introduction of new technology and the development of Pharmacy Technicians, I encourage all IPs, pharmacists, and those qualified to prescribe but not yet using this qualification within their practice, to focus on professional development and grow in confidence to deliver expert care. We look forward to welcoming our IPs to the upcoming CPD days and share our first Supplement to The Professional Standard for IPs, providing essential resources for current and future IPs.
