Leading for pharmacy
A message from Claire Nevinson, Pharmacy Superintendent:
I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to our newly qualified pharmacists who have joined the profession this month with Boots and also to our new cohort of trainee pharmacists about to embark on a year of learning and upskilling with the support of our great healthcare leaders and trainers. Effective leadership in pharmacy requires an important set of skills and behaviours that need to be developed and practised by everyone working in healthcare, from new to Boots trainee pharmacists through to experienced area managers and store managers who may be new to healthcare. This month, we are delighted to launch The Pharmacy Leadership Pathway, a training programme to empower all our leaders to competently and confidently lead for pharmacy. The programme will support and enable every leader in the business to reflect on and develop their mindset and behaviours to:
- lead for pharmacy
- fulfil their professional and legal accountabilities
- empower the delivery of high standards of care to all our patients
- deliver the right business performance outcomes
The training programme mirrors the GPhC standards for pharmacy professionals and consists of 11 monthly modules, delivered via short 20-minute engaging videos. Each module will also provide an opportunity for reflection and discussion. The programme will be accessible to everyone with SOP access, therefore offering an opportunity for assistant store managers, pharmacists or any pharmacy team member looking to develop their leadership of pharmacy.
Andy Francis, Director of Regional Stores, has shared his support for this new programme in this introductory video.
I would encourage our experienced pharmacy professionals to reflect on how best to support leaders through their learning to jointly nurture and develop healthcare teams that consistently deliver exceptional care and great pharmacy performance.
